0017 Colorado Trail Columbine #2 Weminuche Wilderness, San Juan Mountains
This is my favorite example of profuse and diverse wildflowers in Colorado's alpine zone. I found the location along the Colorado Trail in the Weminuche Wilderness. I intentionally composed the most conspicuous flowers, the columbine, in the bottom left corner in order to create an asymmetrical balance. Notice the paintbrush, larkspur, and orange sneezeweed behind the columbine. Notice also how the cloudy light allows the colors to photograph with deep saturation. Direct light would have washed the colors out.
